Scientists warning on Super-Rich: making science go viral

I reported exclusively on a major new paper in Nature Communications demonstrating that that the concentration of wealth is destroying the very conditions for human survival. The new paper by a team of economists titled, ‘Scientists warning on affluence’ at first did not generate much pick-up - and received neglible coverage from the mainstream press (if at all). Until I picked it up via my own crowdfunded platform, INSURGE INTELLIGENCE.

As a result of my reporting via INSURGE, the paper was widely discussed on social media and ended up going viral. Since then, this important scientific paper has been read by 121,000 people - extraordinary for a paper in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. To the best of my knowledge, it hasn’t been covered by anyone else. After my story came out, I was however interviewed about it on AJ+, Al Jazeera English’s social media news channel, which perhaps also helped.

Through INSURGE, I helped break this scientific contribution further into mainstream public discourse.
